Good reporting today, nothing to show for it

Some days you do really good work.
Today I did some really good reporting.
I made calls, I challenged authority, I went to a place that scared me.

And I wrote just one story that wasn't even published.

Ah well.
Tomorrow is another day and I'm excited to learn more about an apartment complex in which all the tenants were evicted.
So now those people -- most of them low-income -- have no place to live.
I can't wait to see what I find out about it in the morning.

Another sad day

Today a 4-year-old girl died in a fire.
And I'm a little bit upset because my spacebar keeps sticking and it's a new keyboard.
I think my keyboard problem is far less important in the grand scheme of things.

I feel bad for her family.
Fire investigators are investigating (because that's what they do), but I think someone will end up taking the blame.
Imagine losing a daughter and then learning it was your fault.
What if you could have fixed the wiring or moved the space heater a little further from the curtain and your child would have lived?
I don't know if is what happened, I'm guessing.
I hope it ends up being something that was truly unavoidable, but I doubt it.

I helped with the reporting, but got nowhere.
The fire investigators don't want to say anything yet.
Nobody official wants to say anything.

I turned into a stupid reporter a bit today.
Not stupid as in, that guy is asking totally irrelevant questions, but I was a little curt with a PIO who wouldn't tell me anything.
I don't like being that guy. I'll try to learn from it and drive on. Make a better choice the next time.

Too many deaths lately.

Disc Golf, Feb. 14, 2015

Working a split shift Saturday, I headed to Peregrine Point Disc Golf Course and got in seven holes. I would have played more, but I worked a later shift and it was getting dark.
